Charleston Wedding Photographer – Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina – Skylar & Roland
Charleston Wedding Photographer – Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina – Skylar & Roland
When we first spoke with Skylar about her Charleston wedding, it was June of 2019. She was a ball of personality and you could tell by her tone, she was ecstatic to be engaged and planning her dream wedding. We have always wanted to photograph and film a wedding in Charleston so we were equally excited to be chatting about becoming her Charleston Wedding Photographer! But before we get to her Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina wedding, let’s tell you how her and Roland came to be – it’s a fantastic story!
It was Skylar’s birthday and she had just moved to Charlotte, NC. One of her friends decided to organize a party on a lake to celebrate. Roland was roommates with Skylar’s friend and decided to join. A popular activity on the lake was paddle-boating. For those unfamiliar with paddle-boating, it has two seats where the rowers sit back to back and use their feet to make the boat move. Skylar jumped on the first available paddle-boat. Roland jumped on as well. Neither knowing the other or introducing themselves.
A few minutes into the boat ride a strange woman paddles up to them and says “I read energy – you guys are either engaged or married, which is it?” Roland replied “I actually proposed last night.” Happy she was correct, the woman floated away. Roland then turned around and said “hey, I’m Roland – it’s your birthday right?” And from there, the rest is history.
Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina Wedding
We arrived in Charleston the day before the wedding. We like to arrive early to ensure there are no issues with traveling, have time to scout the locations we’ll be shooting, and get ready for the wedding the following day. The Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina is a beautiful wedding venue in Mt. Pleasant, SC. Skylar and her girls got ready in one of the bungalows on the Harbor Side while Roland and his groomsmen prepped a few doors down. Skylar had arranged for The Pink Figgy to come for an awesome photo opp with her and her girls. With champagne in hand, we used the pink car and the picturesque Charleston backdrop to create some awesome photos.
It was time to get dressed! Skylar looked incredible in her Galia Lahav wedding dress and Roland looked dapper in his OMJ Suit. They each opened letters and a gift from the other, which is a favorite of ours to document. The colors of the bridesmaids and groomsmen rounded out the perfect color palate for a southern Charleston wedding.
The ceremony was on the beach overlooking the Harbor. It was absolutely stunning! The moment Roland saw Skylar was magical and one of the highlights of the day. They were announced husband and wife with their closest friends and family watching.
After the ceremony we photographed some family formals, bridal party photos, and finished off with portraits of the bride and groom. Meanwhile the guests were enjoying their cocktails around the Marina and then headed to the Reception for food and fun!
The event went off without a hitch thanks to the planning of Chancey Charm Weddings. Our new friend Bunn DJ kept the crowd up and on the dance floor all night which made for some epic reception photos.
We are really hoping to photograph more Charleston Weddings after our amazing time with Skylar and Roland. Do you have an upcoming wedding in Charleston and are looking for a Charleston Wedding Photographer or Videographer? If so, reach out – we’d love to chat!

Park Chateau Wedding Photos
We headed back to one of our favorite New Jersey Wedding Venues, the Park Chateau in New Brunswick, NJ for Gabriella and Brett’s wedding. Shot back in 2018, we’re just getting around to blogging these wonderful images!

Marriott Syracuse Downtown Wedding
We posted about their Rehearsal Dinner a few days ago and now we’re happy to be posting their gorgeous wedding day from the Marriott Syracuse Downtown!
The day started with Kathryn and her bridesmaids getting their hair and makeup done in one of the suites within the Marriott Syracuse Downtown and Justin and his groomsmen in another. If you’ve ever been part of a wedding bridal party, you know how quickly a large space can feel crowded when there are a bunch of people getting dressed – so once Justin was on his way to the church, we had Kathryn move to his suite to finish. Her sisters and mother helped her into her gorgeous Monique Lhuiller dress and Jimmy Choo shoes. She finished her look with some stunning diamond earrings and bracelet.
It was then time to see her girls and her Dad, both an emotional moment that ended in lots of happy tears! Quick shout out to Kathryn’s makeup and hair team, Francesca Roman and Stacey Guerra, they did a phenomenal job! She looked radiant and we were able to really capture her beauty with the help of her hair and makeup team!
The church where Kathryn and Justin made their promises to one another was held at Our Lady of Pompei Church, the church Kathryn has been going to since she was a child. After a beautiful homily by their priest, Kathryn and Justin recited their vows and were pronounced husband and wife. Kathryn and Justin opted for a receiving line to thank all their guests for coming and followed it up with a special bubble exit – one of our favorite things to photograph! It’s such a great photo op!
We then headed to Upper Onondaga Park for formal photographs. Quick note about the park – this was the location Kathryn’s parents took their wedding photos when they got married! It was really special to her to take her photos here and as you’ll see, we were happy to do so because it was beautiful! After photographing there for an hour, we headed back to the Marriott Syracuse Downtown for their wedding reception and cocktail hour.
The details of their wedding were fabulous! Upon entering the main reception room floor, you were greeted with a huge floral wall and your place cards. The reception room was nothing short of spectacular – this grand room with high ceilings, chandeliers, and a balcony that made a great place to capture many of the events happening that night. The floral arrangements done by Backyard Garden Florist added the perfect touch to complete Kathryn’s dream wedding. 45Riots lived up to their reputation and kept the dance floor packed all night! Another special shout out to Pam and MaryRose of Pamela Beth Weddings who helped keep everything running smoothly – without them we wouldn’t have had such a successful weekend!
Kathryn and Justin, you were a pleasure to work with since the moment you reached out to us over a year ago! We enjoyed every minute of your wedding weekend and we’re so thankful you chose us to be part of it!

Skaneateles Country Club Rehearsal Dinner Photos
We headed to Syracuse, NY for Kathryn and Justin’s wedding weekend and the first event we photographed and filmed was her rehearsal dinner and welcome party at Skaneateles Country Club. The day started with gorgeous weather but shortly after the event started, a rogue storm rolled in. It wasn’t long though that the storm passed us and left us with the most beautiful, dramatic sky! We quickly took Justin and Kathryn out to the docks to shoot some portraits. After some dancing and entertainment, we capped the night off with a fireworks display over the Skaneateles Country Club. What a way to start the weekend!! Wedding photos and film coming soon!

The Lakehouse Inn Wedding Photos
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. That was us and blogging. For some reason it just doesn’t come easy for us! There’s just so many other things to do that it’s easy to neglect this part of the business. BUT, starting today, we’ve subscribed to Narrative, a blogging tool that will hopefully get us to do more of these posts! So here’s our first one in a loooooong time and it brings us back to the gorgeous wedding of Becca & Paul’s from the Lakehouse Inn.

Tribeca Rooftop Wedding Photographer
Have you ever seen the real life Ken & Barbie? Well look no further than our stunning bride and handsome groom Christina & Nick! When they were deciding on their Tribeca Rooftop Wedding Photographer, they knew they wanted someone to help them remember their Tribeca Rooftop wedding, but they also wanted that photographer to capture the way they felt. We were honored they chose us! When we first met Christina & Nick we were heading into the Central Park Conservatory for their engagement session. Six months later and it was time to capture their wedding day at the Tribeca Rooftop.
The day started at The Dominick Hotel where both Christina and Nick got dressed and ready for their big day. After getting into her Christos gown, Christina had a tender moment with her dad. We love these moments where Dad sees his daughter for the first time! Nick wore a custom My Suit suit, monogrammed with his initials on the inside. They exchanged cards and gifts, a Rolex for Nick, a bracelet and new golf shoes for Christina (she comes from a family of amazing golfers, including herself!).
Then it was off to their ceremony which took place at the Old St. Patrick’s Cathedral on the corner of Mott St and Prince St. This church has so much history and the interior was breathtaking! Nick and Christina said their vows and were announced husband and wife!
We jumped in our cars and headed to the Tribeca Rooftop where the rest of the night would play out. We took advantage of the cobblestone streets outside Tribeca Rooftop and the surrounding areas – the perfect location for portraits! Because it was raining, most of the cocktail hour was spent indoors but luckily the rain let up towards the end and Christina, Nick, and her guests were able to enjoy the roof deck and awesome views of Manhattan.
The reception was filled with laughs, happy crying, dancing, and memories they will cherish forever. Christina and Nick, thank you so much for choosing Michael Justin Studios to be your Tribeca Rooftop Wedding Photographer – we wish you many years of happiness!
