New York Engagement Photography

In the end there doesn’t have to be anyone who understands you. There just has to be someone who wants to.
— Robert Brault

Aside from providing you with beautiful, emotional portraits in a casual setting, engagement sessions allow us to get to know eachother before the big day. Knowing what to expect from your photographer and feeling relaxed in front of the camera are critical for photographic success. During the engagement session, we love to work with you to find the styles, smiles, angles, and poses that work best for you as a couple. That way, when your wedding day comes around, we’ll have already practiced picture-taking together and everyone will know what to do and expect!

Engagement sessions are the time for you and your beloved to show your inner selves, your love for one another, and your favorite outfits in a relaxing and enjoyable environment. You are welcome to choose a location that speaks to you in a personal way, or let us recommend a few of our favorite spots based on our experience. Some couples choose that special spot where he proposed, others their favorite restaurant, winery, or flower field. We can’t wait to get you in front of the lens and bring out what makes you a special couple!

I saw that you were perfect, so I loved you. Then I saw that you were not perfect, and I loved you even more.

Engagement Session Tips

From how to prepare to what to wear, below are some helpful tips and answers to some of our most frequently asked questions. Engagement sessions are typically held within 60 miles of our studio in Scarsdale, NY. Special requests may be accommodated.

Hair and Makeup:
Hire a professional!

Makeup artists and hairstylists know how to maximize your beauty for the camera. Don't be afraid to put more makeup on than you normally wear - the camera will love it! Also, This is a great opportunity for you to do a trial session for your big day so do your homework and get a pro to doll you up for our session!

WHAT TO WEAR: Colors, Patterns, and Logos

Capturing your love in a natural way is one of the most important things we'll do during an engagement session, which is why we believe you should wear clothing that's comfortable and relaxed. Avoid picking clothing that has large logos or distracting patterns. Solid color clothing is your safest bet! Don't be afraid to add some color, just make sure you select wisely and compliment your partner.

Wardrobe changes:
How many?

We like to minimize wardrobe changes to maximize the time in front of the camera, which is why we recommend  one outfit change midway through the session. Here's a helpful tip: layer your clothes for more versatility. Adding and/or removing accessories can also help change your look - scarves, hats, bags, jewelry - they look amazing so don't shy away from them!

Engagement sessions last 2 hours and start 2 hours before sunset. The first 30 minutes are focused on getting you comfortable in front of the camera and taking posed portraits. The remainder of the session is all about creativity and showcasing your love! We recommend no more than 2 locations - we'd rather spend the time with you two!
